Sea Lyme Grass is a native plant found along the Quebec coastline, the Atlantic seaboard, and throughout the circumpolar region. It plays an important role in coastal ecology by helping to stabilize shorelines. Thanks to its rhizomes and dense root system, sea lyme grass holds soil in place and gradually spreads along the shore. Left to grow, it can form colonies stretching for hundreds of metres. This hardy plant withstands wave action and ice movement, and grows through natural debris deposited by the sea. Reaching heights of up to 90 cm, sea lyme grass is a vigorous species that thrives in dry, sandy soils, wind, and salt spray.
